Postcards
How do you begin to describe an artist like Nathalie L’Été?! (her surname means “The Summer” in French). I am just blown away by how prolific she is and how varied, interesting and beautiful her work is. She hails from Paris, and mixes different techniques and mediums: illustration, ceramics, textile and painting. Her inspirations are her travels, vintage toys, old engravings of flowers and animals, and popular/folk art. Her work is colourful, naive, poetic, sometimes strange. She produces children’s and graphic books, toys, glass pictures, painted dishes, postcards, ceramic sculptures, silkscreen printed t-shirts, rugs and jewelery in limited editions. There is no end to her talent… and she has collaborated with the likes of Karl Lagerfeld and Issey Miyake. Her website has so many incredible things on it that I feel like a kid in a candy shop! She also is very generous with sharing photos of her home and workshop – you feel like you know her. You can find shops on her website that carry her items or contact her for a commissioned piece! For a start, some of her items are at some of my favorite shops, John Derian, Astier de Villatte…and Anthropologie has a gallery devoted to her.
