Here is a wonderful, award winning kid’s photographer and family photographer, Tanya Alexis! We met Tanya this summer in New York while we were running our very first lemonade stand under the arches of Washington Square Park. She liked our lemonade and we liked her photos!

Although based in LA, Tanya, works in NYC from time to time. Take a look at all the wonderful shots where kids are kids, on her site.

And I have included a little interview with her about her process. Scroll down to read it!

Jeanne: What recommendations do you have for clothing during a photo shoot?

Tanya: Put your child(ren) in something comfortable and not itchy or scratchy.  Kids are much happier when they are wearing something that makes them feel good.  If your kids are old enough, let them pick out their own outfit.  Even if it doesn’t match, I guarantee that you will look back fondly on the images and their clothing choices. It is more important that your kids are comfy than to have them in something that is cute, but uncomfortable.  If it is at all possible to avoid all black or all white that is ideal. Plus, bright bold colors for the kids and softer colors for the parents usually looks best in family photographs. Also, regarding shoes, try to stick with neutral colors. This way when you look at the finished photographs, your eyes do not go directly to the brightly colored shoes. The biggest piece of advice I can give you for the adults is to wear something that you feel good in and something that covers the areas that you are most self conscious about. When you feel confident and comfortable in what you are wearing, you exude an inner-confidence.

Jeanne: What is your current inspiration for photoshoots?

Tanya:   My current inspiration varies from shoot to shoot.  My clients and I talk prior to each session.  They answer questions about how they see there family and about their daily rituals and routines.  Each client conversation inspires me for their shoot.  Their openness allows my creativity to be sparked.  We wind up with images that are specific and more importantly, memorable to their family.

Jeanne: What is your favorite time during a production or producing a shoot?

Tanya: My favorite moment during the shoot is that wonderful Ahha! moment…when you watch a moment, incredible and yet so simple and natural unfold right before your eyes.
