3D-Printed Teddy Bears

Okay. It’s happened. Disney Research is now using technology to create custom stuffed animals. I don’t know about you, but I am completely fascinated by the capabilities of 3D printing for action figures, other toys and in industry of course. And now Disney Research in collaboration with a team from Carnegie Mellon University, has created 3D-printed teddy bears, which introduces playthings that are significantly more cuddly!

They are made with a 3D printer that has been blended with a sewing machine. Layers of felt are sewn together using a technique called needle felting. In addition to teddy bears, the researchers foresee this printer being used to create soft robots and more. It seems this is just the beginning! Check out the video. It’s pretty interesting.
